Hong Kong’s Payment Card Usage Sees Significant Growth in Q2 2025
Hong Kong's credit card market surged in the second quarter of 2025, with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority reporting a 4.2% quarterly increase in circulation to 22.8 million cards. Transaction volume ROSE 8.3% to 360.1 million, though transaction value saw a slight 2.1% dip to HK$268.4 billion compared to Q1.
Retail spending dominated card usage, accounting for 62.7% of total transaction value. The year-over-year growth remains robust, with card circulation up 14.6% and transaction value increasing 12.2% compared to Q2 2024.
